Hey guys! Just wanted to share a few updates in the world of food with you. I have always been a fan of Anthony Bourdain’s show, No Reservations, but after the Chicago episode, I am officially hooked. Tonight is his food porn special, a topic after my own heart. I’ve been dabbling in the food porn industry (either reading or creating) since I was 5, so no one is more excited than this food bitch. Because I’m cool and have the inside loop, check out this preview of the episode, which I got from Ingrid Getzan from Room 214 (on behalf of the Travel Channel). And prepare to drool and maybe get a bit a gassy. If you’re rolling with Bourdain, drooling and gas are just part of the package. In other food world news, Ruth Reichl, the editor of Gourmet magazine, former restaurant critic of the NYTimes and all around amazing food writer has finally joined Twitter! You might notice that my Twitter feed is finally posted along the side of the blog. Not only can you join and be my friend, but you can also follow Ruth and get updates from inside of trenches of the food writing world. As an avid food reader and writer, this = Disney World to a food geek like me. I think I danced a little when I found her…but it was a very bad and out of date dance from the early 90s that closely resembled the mating rituals of a guinea pig…I’m not too proud of it. But the more important issue at hand here is how do I get Ruth to follow MY twitter? Now, I’m not asking for a job. I’m not even asking for restaurant recs from her. I just want to be her friend, and frankly, I think if she knew me, she would want to be my friend too. I’m funny. I can throw down some food better than Jefferey Steingarten himself. I have a masters in gastronomy. I’ve lived in Australia. I’m not stalker. My food writing has a huge senior citizen following in Joliet, IL. Oh Ruth, the stories we could tell each other! I am sure the other 733 Ruth Reichl twitterers feel the exact same way. They all were inspired to write about food after reading her books, they all have subscriptions to Gourmet and every last one of them reads the letter from the editor because damn it, you just can’t enough new Ruth Reichl writing these days. Blah, blah, blah. Me? Just want to be her friend. Maybe treat to her a nice meal of dumplings in NYC. Definitely NOT a stalker. Did I mention that yet? Totally not a stalker. So I’m going to start by responded to a few of her tweets. If anyone has any suggestions on how to (positively and non-stalker-ish-ly) get her attention, please let me know! It looks like she is only following around 20 of her 734 twitterers, so the pickings are slim and the chances of getting in are slimmer. Wish me luck! ~LTG!
