Amuse bouche: How old is the Thanksgiving holiday?

Many Americans believe Thanksgiving celebrates the beginning of the United States, and originated from a large feast the Pilgrims shared with Native Americans. Thanksgiving initially started in the U.S. in the 17th century, but did not catch on as a national holiday until the mid-nineteenth century, when President Abraham Lincoln declared it so. There has been very little research found to date that supports the idea of the “first Thanksgiving” with the Pilgrims and Native Americans.
