Hello, fellow food friends. I have safely landed in Chicago and I am slowly but surely starting my life back up again. The past two months have been hands down the most STRESSFUL of my life (my Aussie nickname was Stressbunny, if that is any clue). Between finishing my 15,000 word dissertation, moving twice in a week, FIVE flights home over 48 hours, moving in with my parents (yup, married and living with my parents?l am officially the COOLEST PERSON ON EARTH. Bow to me now), finding a job (anyone want to hire an attractive, intelligent food writer with great research experience? Ruhlman, want to write a book with me?), and another apartment in the city, I barely had time to shower, let alone blog. Lucky for you, I showered this morning. And blogged a bit. Life in Chicago has been?different. I already miss the amazing Central Market in Adelaide with its local raised meat and amazing produce. Some how, Jewel-Osco just doesn?t compare. I miss the rolling Adelaide Hills that surrounded the city, the beautiful weather and heaps of sunshine. Lots of changes have occurred in Chicago, both good and bad. The city of Chicago finally lifted their ridiculous ban on foie gras. Score. There is not a single independently owned restaurant in my parents tiny, 20,000 person town. Burn. I was able to buy a tamale on a street corner in Chicago at 9am. Double score. My best friend in the entire world AND food soul mate decided to go vegan. Double dog burn. But I am one tenacious hussy, so stand back folks. I have 14 blogs left from Australia, and I refuse to go out of order. So the next week or so will be Australia-themed, at least until I pump out these delicious, food-laden posts of goodness about the land down under I have grown to love so much. America can wait. It ain?t goin nowhere. So enjoy, while I go drown myself in hot bacon oil to wash off the stench of disappointment my newly formed vegan friend has left on me. ~LTG!
