The Healthy Schools Campaign latest project, Fresh Voices for Fresh Choices: Changing school lunches one story at a time, is complete! We are proud to announce that 12 bloggers joined us yesterday to get the word out about our petition for healthier school lunches. Each blogger posted their own take on school lunches, with entries ranging from fact-filled articles to favorite school lunch memories to healthy recipes that parents can make for their own kids. A big thanks goes out to everyone who participate But just because our project is over, that doesn?t mean the petition is closed. You can find it here. If you care about serving children healthy, nutritious food in school, or even about the fact that over 25% of all school-aged children were obese last year, please take 30 seconds to fill out our petition. Our goal is to turn this petition in to president-elect Obama in 2009, when the Child Nutrition Act (which dictates school lunch funding and nutrition) is up for reauthorization. If you didn?t get a chance to participate in Fresh Voices for Fresh Choices but would like to help out in the future, let us know! Our goal is to get 10,000 signatures, so we will be hosting another event in January, and are always looking for guest bloggers to write about school lunches from their own perspective. As promised, here is a round-up of all the great blogs that participated. Michelle over at What?s Cooking blog kept it short and sweet, reminding us all about the obesity problem among today?s youth. Ashlee from Mamaspeaks made Fresh Voices for Fresh Choices the cause of the day. Anne-Marie over at My Readable Feast and This Mama Cooks was a founder of a Colorado charter school, so she used her experience with parents to explain why signing the petition is so important. Thanks for the double post, Anne-Marie! Amanda from What We?re Eating took a trip down memory lane, exploring the dismal school lunch options available to her back in the day. The kind folks over at The Little Green People Show blog not only did a post for the petition where we learned about school lunches in Madrid from Christie, but they went on to create several more blog posts that discuss the issue of school lunches from various angles. So check out posts from Green Mama (who also double posted about us at her personal site, The Green Mama) and Laurene. Chef Ann from Lunch Lessons outlined specific changes she felt needed to happen for school lunches. Susan over at Food Blogga shares her favorite school lunch memories along with her favorite healthy chili recipe, which happens to be perfect for school lunches. Debra at The Ethicurean wrote a very informative post about how president-elect Obama can help extend a child?s life (and she also double posted for us! Check it out here). Jamie over at Ramblings in Chocolate talked about her own picky eating childhood lunches, and shared a school lunch story from a friend. Finally, I posted about it at my own food blog, Leena Eats This Blog, where I talked about the best birthday school lunch in the world. So that is it! Fourteen blogs and twelve bloggers who think you should sign the petition to push for healthier school lunches. Stay tuned for more events from the Healthy Schools Campaign supporting a healthier school lunch program for the nation! ~LTG!
