The sandwich that Leena didn’t eat.

It?s pretty rare that I don?t eat something. Even if it tastes bad, I usually give it a go just to see if the dish redeems itself by the end. Enter item number ten on ?the list?: A bbq and coleslaw panini from Cooper?-A Neighborhood Eatery (1232 W. Belmont, Chicago). The description of this dish in the article is so sensual and enticing; I needed a minute alone with the magazine after reading it the first time. To quote the article, the chef ?brines the pork for 48 hours, gives it a spice rub and lets sit for another 48 hours, smokes it for ten hours and finally finishes it in the oven for five or six more hours.? Okay, yeah. Sounds like heaven, right? It was just very underwhelming. The meat was okay, but when I eat smoked meat, I want to taste the smoke, and it just wasn?t there. Maybe it was the coleslaw or the meat, but there was this heavy vinegar undertone, and while I know some people like vinegary bbq, I have yet to venture into that stage of my life. It was very much the antithesis of the article, and frankly, it made me sad. Getting me all worked up and then giving me McDonalds. Sheesh. I mean, really. But scratch number ten off the list. ~LTG
