Pork. That was what I expected when meeting Amanda from What We’re Eating and Food Porn Daily fame. We would share lots and lots of pork, some beer, and a few choice curse words. Thankfully, she had the same idea in mind. Let’s make the background part short and sweet, because there is too much food porn! Once upon a time, I met a funny bitch who liked to eat on the Internets. Seeing that I am also a funny bitch that likes to eat and is also on the Internets, it was only natural the two of us became friends. Fast forward a few years, and Amanda is visiting Chicago for the first time with her partner in crime, Tyler. They came, they ate, THEY CONQUERED pork in several forms. Come join us on our tour-o-Chicago! We started off at The Hopleaf, my favorite gastropub, where we down many a beer and cider, and ate our weight in pork and other cured meats. BTW–the curry mussels ROCKED. Not many photos emerged, but I blame the artisan beer. And Amanda, who had a much bigger, cooler camera than I did. It scared my camera into staying in my purse.
Bright and early the next morning, we hit up Lincoln Park’s Green City Farmers Market to eat, buy ingredients for dinner, and eat some more.
After the market, we decided to hit up Hot Doug’s. Good thing we went so early, because we had a lovely TWO HOUR waiting in line. Not even joking here–you want the good encased meat, you wait the wait.
After all the gluttony at Hot Doug’s, we headed up to Little India to check out a few ethnic stores.
Finally, we returned to my place, where we cooked the most amazing burger ever (Paulina Meat Market seasoned steak burgers, topped with Paulina’s smoked shredded bbq beef brisket, local goat cheese, micro greens, and avocado. Again, Amanda’s camera shamed my camera into hiding for this one. But not for my dessert:
In the end, I hope I showed Amanda and Tyler what Chicago is all about: good food, fun neighborhoods, and more pork than you could shake a stick at. Thanks visiting, guys!
