When a pregnancy craving calls, you don’t ignore–you drop everything else and make it YOUR GOAL to get that food. My mission: Mexican food in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood to catch up with friends. My results: Tropisueno.
Thoughts on the food, service and plenty of food porn after the jump.

Moletes de Elote y Chorizo--Mexican corn cigars filled with corn and chorizo, topped with sour cream and black beans.
I was particularly pumped about the moletes, but found them to be lackluster–not enough corn flavor despite corn in two separate parts (the crust and the filling), and definitely not enough chorizo flavor. When I eat Mexican chorizo, I expect to be tasting it for next three days, if it’s any good.
Also not impressive? The service. Granted, we were a big table of 6, but it seemed to be eons in between drink refills and courses. Thankfully, the food made up for it.

Chuleta de Puerco Adobada- grilled Niman Ranch pork chops marinated in chile peppers. This was delicious, juicy, slightly crisp.

Pollo Asado- Petaluma free-range chicken marinated with citrus and achiote, grilled. This was freaking awesome. Crispy, juicy, plump chicken.
I am usually not one to order boring old chicken at a restaurant, but this is chicken worth trying. The skin was crisp and crunchy and super flavorful, and the bird was super juicy, and tasted great under warm corn tortillas.
The two people who ordered this dish were very happy, both with the portion size as well as the flavor of the beef.
In all, this was a good restaurant with o.k. service that I would return to, if only for that dreamy chicken. Go here.
