Leena Eats: SF–Day three, part three: Japanese Sweets and The Slanted Door

Cari and I played hooky during BlogHer Food ’09 for a bit and stumbled upon a Japanese sweet shop…

Sweets that look delicious and most likely filled with sweet bean paste.

Cari regaled with me stories about Japanese food history (she lived in Japan for a spell). This is one of the only cakes they traditionally make, because sugar wasn’t introduce into Japan until much much later than most Westernized countries.

Another kind of Japanese sweet that I can’t pronounce.

Dinner that night came highly reccomended, and it was at a place on the water called The Slanted Door. This is sort of an upscale Asian restaurant. See Cari’s blog if you want really detailed descriptions on this meal. I realized I was getting the flu by the time the first dish arrived, so I didn’t do much more than take photos and whine a bit. Oh yeah, and pose for awesome photos.

I think this was a salt and pepper shrimp dish.

And this is the last thing I remember from the evening: my husband Adam and Cari enthusiastically chatting and eating. I vaguely remember them dragging me back to the room, throwing Nyquil down my throat, and thats about it.

This shot may be blurry, but it exactly how I saw them that night through my sickness.

And I proceeded to sick for the next two weeks. Thankfully, I did so much in my first three days of SF! And moving there helps too. More to come! ~LTG!
