Leena Eats: Dinkel’s Burglaur

Leena Eats: Dinkels Burglaur
The breakfast sandwich’s cooler, more compact cousin, the Burglaur.

While looking for doughnuts to buy for my food studies class last week, I stumbled upon Dinkel’s, a German bakery that been in Chicago since 1922. Their doughnuts are definitely divine, but it was their version of a breakfast sandwich that caught my eye: the Burglaur. I liked immediately for two obvious reasons: 1) It looked delicious and 2)It’s name made me think of that lovable McDonalds character, The Hamburglar. In fact, every time I think of this breakfast bit of goodness, I called it the Hamburglar. Picture a biscuit made out of focaccia bread, and shoved full of egg, crispy bacon, cheese, spinach and pesto. If it makes you vomit, you are either Jewish or need a good slapping. If it makes you happy, please, read on. And be my friend.

How could you hate a face like that? C’mon, it has BACON on it!

The sandwich is just under $4, and tastes good cold, but even better slightly warm. Just look how happy these toasty innards are!

The Burglaur is not afraid to strip down to the nitty-gritty.

So in conclusion, the Hamburglar does not exist. But the Burglaur does, and you should eat it ONLY IF you like food that tastes delicious. Or if you want to be my friend. ~LTG! ************************************************** Dinkel’s Bakery 3329 N. Lincoln Ave Chicago, IL 60657 (773) 281-7300 www.dinkels.com

I may be Jewish, but that sounds delicious! And my wife does like to give me a good slapping every once and awhile.

You have the best job ever!

I live just up the street from Dinkel’s, and I’ve had a few things from there, but I’ll definitely go try this.
