While looking for doughnuts to buy for my food studies class last week, I stumbled upon Dinkel’s, a German bakery that been in Chicago since 1922. Their doughnuts are definitely divine, but it was their version of a breakfast sandwich that caught my eye: the Burglaur. I liked immediately for two obvious reasons: 1) It looked delicious and 2)It’s name made me think of that lovable McDonalds character, The Hamburglar. In fact, every time I think of this breakfast bit of goodness, I called it the Hamburglar. Picture a biscuit made out of focaccia bread, and shoved full of egg, crispy bacon, cheese, spinach and pesto. If it makes you vomit, you are either Jewish or need a good slapping. If it makes you happy, please, read on. And be my friend.
The sandwich is just under $4, and tastes good cold, but even better slightly warm. Just look how happy these toasty innards are!
So in conclusion, the Hamburglar does not exist. But the Burglaur does, and you should eat it ONLY IF you like food that tastes delicious. Or if you want to be my friend. ~LTG! ************************************************** Dinkel’s Bakery 3329 N. Lincoln Ave Chicago, IL 60657 (773) 281-7300 www.dinkels.com
