Leena Eats:An entire cow at David Burke’s Primehouse

Leena Eats:An entire cow at David Burkes Primehouse
Classic shrimp cocktail w/ ginger sauce and cocktail sauce @ David Burke’s Primehouse, $16 USD. Love. Shrimp. COCKTAIL! Especially when the shrimp are the size of small elephants. Mmm. Sea-elephants.

So remember that guy I married? Well, he loves me so much, he took me to eat a whole cow and a cake in a can in celebration of our third wedding anniversary. Some say the third anniversary is the leather anniversary, but my husband knows better: it’s the gluttony anniversary. And really, shouldn’t they ALL be? We headed over to The James Hotel downtown, home of David Burke’s Primehouse, a contemporary American steakhouse. As the story goes, Burke was so obsessed with the quality of food coming into his restaurant, he got his own bull known as Prime, a 2500 pound Black Angus bull, to make little Prime baby cows that taste like the best beef on the face of the planet smeared in bacon. There is even an on-site Himalayan salt dry aging room! And shrimp the size of sea-elephants! So, in honor of this massive meal that put me into the food coma of the year, few words and heaps of food pron. Get excited.

The cheesy poof bread they bring you at the start of the meal. Cartman would be proud.

French onion soup raviolis, $9 USD. Super rich and comforting soup with raviolis filled with caramelized onion. Only thing that would make it better would be a nice layer of melted cheese on top!

Adam’s main

The innards of Adam’s filet mignon, medium. Delicious, but not as good as mine…

My main:

My 55 day aged bone-in ribeye at David Burke’s Primehouse $62 USD, named the best dry aged steak 2008 in Chicago. Hot damn, right? Practically a whole cow!

Innards of my 55 day aged bone-in ribeye. I ordered it medium, but this was the first slice. Following slices showed a bit more red like a proper medium. SO GOOD. Try not to nibble on this bone. I dare you.

Sides:

Spanish chorizo-whipped potatoes, $7 USD. One of my favorite dishes of the night, but really rich.

Pan-roasted mushrooms at David Burke’s Primehouse, $7 USD.

Dessert So at the beginning of the meal, my husband told me we had to order the red velvet cake in a can (he had been to the restaurant before), and because it was baked fresh, we had to order it before the meal. This dessert feeds six. And my husband encouraged me to order it. Words cannot describe the love I felt for him at that moment! So, ten minutes before the dessert arrives, this comes to the table…

The beaters from the cake with batter still on them for us to lick!!!

And then ten minutes later…

The cake in a can ($24 USD), still warm from the oven. Also, a giant dish of cream cheese frosting and another dish of vanilla bean ice cream. So simple, and yet so much fun.

Overall, a quite kick-ass, special, once a year sort of meal. ~LTG! *************************************************************** David Burke’s Primehouse 616 N. Rush Street Chicago, IL 60611 312-660-6000 David Burke’s Primehouse Website

um, i think i’m in love. that ribeye makes my heart skip a beat, the beaters are lust, and the fact that they include both ice cream and frosting with the cake takes it to full on love.

but damn, now i want a big, juicy ribeye steak NOW.

Did you eat the whole cake? And if not, did they let you take the rest of it home?
