The partner and I got surprised with a random FREE trip to a local restaurant, the Apothecary 1878. It’s a wine and tapas bar/restaraunt on Hindley in Adelaide, and we’ve been wanting to try it for a while. Never one to turn down a good free meal, we went. Not a lot to say. The food was pretty good, but for the price, didn’t really blow me away. I forgot to get a picture of the antipasto plate we started with, but I have a feeling their tapas are especially good. One of our fellow diners had the spatchcock. We teased him for hours about this name.

Adam had the pork hock with crackling and lentils. Sorry about the crappy picture–it was dark!

I had the paella. It was pretty, came straight out of the oven, and was pretty good. Thats it. Nothing mind blowing. The prawns were cooked in their shells, which of course makes them taste better, but the dish was so blindingly hot, it was impossible to get them out of the shells without flinging them across the table. And there was no crunchy rice bottom like all good paellas have.

The last diner chose the garlic ribeye, and I think he won the “I picked the best dish”prize.

The sides were also okay, salt and olive oil roasted potatoes and sauteed greens.

And thats that. No decisions yet, I’d like to come back for the tapas and my choice of wines. Think of this as more of a food porn post than a substance post
