Leena Cooks: Toddler Pizza Making Party!

I love pizza—making it, baking it, eating it, the whole shebang. I also happen to dig hanging out with kids (in a non-creepy way) and teaching them how to cook. The first time, it was with the world’s most adorable toddlers (who are now in grade school!) before I ever had kids. Then, I got to try it out with my own offspring, which proved adorable, slightly annoying, and delicious. I even had the crazy idea to teach teens how to make pizza dough from scratch, and that was…messy. So of course, what is the first thing I think about doing when we were returning a babysitting favor for a few friends with toddlers? PIZZA PARTY! Yeah. I may be insane. Or the coolest mom ever. It varies from day to day The details on the set up and more after the break! So, first thing to do is prep the hell out of the recipe. For dough, this is my go to recipe, but feel free to use your...

Leena Cooks: Pizza with her toddler!

So forever and a day ago, back in 2009 to be exact, I took my childless ass up to Wisconsin to hang out with a college friend and teach her kids (then 2 & 3) to make pizza from scratch. The post was mainly photos, but it gave me first hand experience trying to “cook” with toddlers. Fast forward to today, where it was time to get my own two year old in the kitchen cooking (mainly to keep her busy while making dinner. And because watching another episode of Caillou or Dora the Explorer would make me puke). This time, I’m including my favorite pizza dough recipe so you can try it for yourself. Photos and the recipe after the jump! But just for you? A sneak preview of the cuteness you are in for: So “cooking” with toddlers really means you cook and prep all the ingredients you need BEFORE the toddler gets involved. Otherwise you’ll be cleaning flour...

Suck it, Pizza Hut.

I?ve said it before and I?ll say it again: like a good Justin Timberlake video, pizza gets me all hot and bothered and leaves wanting a cigarette afterwards. And I don’t even smoke. This time, I made my new favorite pizza and turned my favorite sandwich into a pizza, all using fresh pizza dough I bought at the Central Market (yup, still no time to make it on my own-but come on. It was $3). Oh, and I tried using less dough per pizza and managed to stretch the dough thin enough that it got nice and crispy. I like to rub the dough with olive oil before I bake it, and I bake both sides before topping it and baking to melt/heat the toppings, because I dig a super crisp pizza. The first one was a Hawaiian pizza?you see, a few weeks ago, we ordered one from Pizza Hut (in a moment of hungover weakness, I swear!) and it looked so pathetic. Little strips of ham you could barely taste,...

Stuff it up your pizza, bitch.

So I am sure you are wondering what exactly I do all day when I am not hard at work in school. Hell, I often wonder that myself. I am proud to say that I have the attention span of a monkey on acid, and just as much self control. That means that if I study at my house, whatever I am reading will keep me occupied for an hour at most, and then it starts making me hungry (every paper is about food. Can you blame me?). I try to calm my hunger down by reading some food porn, usually Gourmet or Bon Appetit, or if it?s particularly bad, I?ll start surfing my food discussion boards for some hardcore stuff like full out dissertations on the 10 course meal someone was served at Topolobampo. But that inevitably makes me hungrier, so I scheme for something amazing and porn worthy to make for dinner. And then I go shopping for the ingredients. And then I get home and its time to start making it....
