Happy Monday! Happy wake-up-to-find-out-your-gas-is-being-shut-off-even-though-you-thought-you-were-paying-the-bills-and-your-work-colleague-has-bailed-on-you-again-day! I think of all the days that exist, this is my most favoritest day of them all. And with delicious photos of fruit tarts to boot, too. Whoa. I’m a lucky gal. The cool thing about me is, 1)I’m not bitter. Like, at ALL. Totally fucking fine. My old friend Kristen, aka Stud (her nickname) came to visit us at the end of the Australian summer/end of Chicago winter, which was mid-February. She basically went from 6 inches of snow to 6 degrees below 100 F, a true culture shock. Stud is an adventurous gal, and being our third guest, we wanted to mix up the activities a bit. Of course, we did the mandatory visits to local wine regions and a trip to Cleland Park (remember when I took my parents?), but we also took our first surfing lessons in Middleton. Sure, I was the only one who couldn’t get her chunky butt standing on the board, but I felt so bad-ass just laying on the board and letting the waves carry me in, making me feel weightless and slightly amazed at the force that was carrying me. It was like Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” was playing the entire time in my head, and that board was my bitch. Who cares if it occasionally slapped me upside the head when I fell off of it?
